Promotion of a safe environment within the University
The University is committed to the provision of an environment which promotes VCT and open discussions on HIV/AIDS.
Care and support services will be made available to all staff and students in collaboration with external stakeholders. The following services are currently being provided:
Free Voluntary counselling and Testing (VCT)
Prevention messages and awareness activities
Student counselling
Treatment of minor opportunistic infections
Ongoing care and support of HIV positive staff and students
Initial preparation and referral services for HIV positive staff/students for antiretroviral therapy(ART’s)
The University endorses the implementation of universal precautions by all staff and students likely to experience the risk of occupational exposure to HIV infection in the course of their duties or studies. (Refer to the Occupational Exposure Policy of the University (D/539/07).
